Civil Rights: It all started on a bus.

I lived this and only now am I truly understanding what I lived 50 years ago as a pre teenager.

偉大的使命當然不僅以一篇演說就能成就,而是靠無數人長期抗命爭取而來的。1955年,美國蒙哥馬利有法例規定,當巴士座位不足時,黑人須讓座予白人;當連站位都不足時,黑人就要下車!一天,一位名叫帕克斯(RosaParks)的女士與三位黑人乘客被司機要求讓座予白人,三人讓座,唯獨帕克斯女士不願服從,最終被警方拘捕。

此事立即觸發了當地數十名黑人領袖討論後續的抗爭行動。他們推舉了年輕牧師馬丁路德金為首,帶領他們就不公義的種族隔離法律,進行了一波又一波的公民抗命。例如維持了逾一年的巴士杯葛運動,又動員黑人到只准白人使用的圖書館及教堂等地方靜坐抗議。

多年來,被政府以暴力鎮壓、鋃鐺入獄者無數,卻反而感動了更多人走出來,加入和平抗爭。終於,就在50 年前的今天,25 萬人到首都華盛頓示威,那股和平但堅定無比的力量終令國會讓步,成就了無數人的平權夢。

回到今天的香港,有戴耀廷教授等提出「和平佔中」公民抗命運動。有人批評建議太「激進」,為何要劍拔弩張,不與港府及北京「有商有量」?馬丁路德金寫於伯明翰監獄的一封信,或許能為你提供答案——

「你可能會問: 『為何要抗爭?為何要靜坐、遊行?談判豈非更好?』你說得對,當然要談判——談判正正就是發起抗爭的目的。非暴力抗爭就是要透過群眾製造危機、凝聚張力,迫使長期拒絕談判的人正視我們的訴求,打開談判之門。」

We do not need everyone when the Martin Luther King to lead the democratic movement ; But Everyone in Hong Kong to face the choice of Ms. Parks . We are sitting in the same seat that frame to give real estate hegemony , Liang pink people on buses . When false introduced universal suffrage , you have only two choices: To defeat injustice exit , or for justice insisted disobedience ? Your choice will rewrite the history of Hong Kong . / /

The time of writing , just black civil rights leaders in Washington Post , “I have a dream ” speech 50 anniversary. Two years after the speech , the U.S. Congress passed a bill were to revoke the policy of apartheid , and let the nation’s blacks have equal voting rights .

Of course, not only the great mission of a speech can accomplish , but by countless people come to fight long-term disobedience . In 1955, the United States there are laws in Montgomery , when the bus seat is low, blacks should give seats to whites ; when even the stations are insufficient, the blacks would get off ! One day, a man named Parkes (RosaParks) lady with three black passengers were requested by the driver seat to whites , three seat , except Ms. Parks reluctant to obey , was eventually arrested.

The matter immediately trigger dozens of local black leaders to discuss the follow-up protest actions . They elected the Reverend Martin Luther King , led by the young and lead them on the unjust apartheid laws, carried out wave after wave of civil disobedience . Such as the maintenance of the bus boycott movement more than a year , but also to mobilize blacks to whites only allowed to use the library and churches and other local sit-in protest .

Over the years, violent repression by the government , who jailed numerous , but instead touched more people to come out and join the peace protest . Finally , just 50 years ago today, 25 million people to protest in Washington, DC , the sense of peace and immense power but firmly so that Congress finally withdrew , the achievements of many people dream of equal rights .

Back to Hong Kong today , and put forward a Professor Dai Yaoting “peaceful accounted for in ” civil disobedience movement. Some people criticized the proposal is too ” radical ” , why should rattling , not with the Government and Beijing ” have close ” ? Martin Luther King wrote in a letter from Birmingham Jail , may be able to provide you with the answer –

“You may ask: ” Why fight ? Why sit-ins, marches ? Negotiating it not better ? ” You’re right, of course, to negotiations – negotiations initiated protest is precisely the purpose of the masses through nonviolent struggle is to manufacture crisis , cohesion tension , forcing people to face long refused to negotiate our demands , opening the door to negotiations . ”
